My flow of ideas. How the content I consume leads to the content I publish

I have been reading Bob Doto's A System for Writer, a book on how having a Zettelkasten can help writers generate and develop their ideas and their writing practice. As a result of this book, I realised that I wasn't making the best use of my Zettelkasten. This post is a result of my efforts to improve my use of my Zettelkasten and my thinking.

Over the weekend, I came across a note in my Zettelkasten called Flow of Ideas. It states that nearly all ideas come from the content you consume and that we can learn the sources that help us generate the best ideas. This idea came from a note I took from the Tim Ferriss podcast show 648 with James Clear.

When I came across this note sometime later on a Saturday morning, it led me to generate another note in my Zettelkasten titled "My Own Flow of Ideas," in which I think about my own process. This then led to me writing this short post.

Much of the digital content I consume will likely come into my Personal Knowledge Management System (PKM) via Readwise. Some of these notes will be processed into my Zettelkasten as Literature notes and then Permanent notes, both of which are written in my own words. I have linked to relevant blog posts on my blog.

Where they will stew and mix with other ideas to generate fresh ideas or perspectives, which I can then later write, about such as this very post.

But my original note made the point that one variable controlling the quality of your content is the content you consume yourself.

How do you see your own flow of ideas working?
